Does anyone think it's peculiar that this is an election issue? I can't
rightly recall the last time a Canadian Prime Minister's military service
record came into play. In fact, I can't recall the last Prime Minister to
even have military service.

Perhaps this is some sort of commentary on a nations leanings towards
militaristic aspirations? I mean, if "the people" really want their leader
to have a military background, then wouldn't that suggest that "the
people" are generally alright with going to war? My outsiders take was
that people were sick of having a war president like George W., but now
people are all happy that Kerry has 'solid' military service.  Am I
missing something?

Don't get me wrong, I think Canada needs a Prime Minister that understands
intimately the need for national defence. However, when that came up in
the last election, the only guy publicly in favour of boosting our
military was shot down for that very reason.

The world is weird. Give me the matrix.
