I don't think everyone wants their leader to have a military background,
active duty experience, or even combat experience; but if they do, I
think it is very helpful in that the "leader" has a greater
understanding of what war entails; not just what the media shows us. I
have much admiration for John Kerry and Senator McCain because they both
saw combat and McCain even experienced torture as a POW. On the other
hand, Bush experienced a non combat flying stint that is now in
question. So with all that, I say if the issue of war arises, the better
man to make the decision or handle the decision being made is the one
who has seen it up close and personal and has a deep understanding of
what goes into and comes out of it. What does Bush really know about war
other than how to go-it-alone with a crappy plan and piss off the world?
