You are right, there are certain facts that are quite unsettling...the Patriot Act produces several of those.

But imminent police state or national insolvency in a few years? Those are irrational conclusions, even if they may arise from rational concerns.

  It's not a left or right thing.  The President would like you to think
  in this us-and-them way so that he can appeal to your predjudices, but
  it's a common sense thing.  Here's why:

  There's a difference between saying the if Mr. Kerry is elected "we're
  going to get hit again" which is baseless speculation, and saying that
  the country's unfunded liabilities currently lie at $45 trillion which
  is greater than it's net worth - that's factual.

  Saying that the police, can search your house, business, and medical
  and financial records without telling you and without your permission
  is a fact of the Patriot Act; and if they're mistaken, oh well, no
  penalty.

  The point is facts need to be put on the table, and if they stir fear,
  then they do.  Americans should be afraid of this President's out of
  control spending and reckless foreign policy - I am.
