I believe Priests who hear confession are still legally exempt....they cannot be compelled in a court to testify to what was said during the religious sacrament of confession.

I think that is still true.

  situation as I understand it. The doctors themselves aren't being
  compelled to give the testemony, the patient's records are doing that
  for them. So with a confession to a priest, the key seems to be
  whether there is anything more concrete than just the priest's ears.

  There are constantly cases where law enforcement is pushing the
  barriers of what they are allowed to use. The big ones that I recall
  lately have to do with confessions of prisoners in detention where
  everything the prisoner says is recorded.
