So, we are going to be in the market for a new Graphic Artist here at our shop. We really have had a couple of bad experiences with the past two that we have hired. Sorry to the graphics ppl out there, but our opinion is that they have a tendency to be very flaky.
For instance, our current/soon to be jobless designer told us that she could not develop any WOW! designs (what we call them) for clients until she got some good information from them. We think that we provide her with very good information, enough to take the ball and run. When we asked her to develop a web site for a local high scale Irish Pub/Restaurant, the design was good, but way off the mark as far as relevance to the business. When approached about why it was this way, she replied that she had no idea who the 'target audience' was, and therefore could not complete the design. And that is not the only thing. She and her predecessor just had no idea of common sense stuff. She was great at art, but could not relate to the real world. The problem seems to be that they seem great in the interview, but when we hire them, the ugkly stuff comes out. Does anyone have any suggestions for good interview questions so that we might be able to weed out the flaky artsy type people? Any suggestions will be helpful!
