I have never heard anyone say that the Palestinians want everyone to "just get along".
Michael already pointed out that Israel made an unprecendented offer of peace to
Yasser Arafat four years ago- a deal brokered by Bill Clinton in what I thought at the
time would have been Clinton's shining foreign policy achievement. No bash on Clinton,
he did everything humanly possible to bring the parties to the table, and he helped
secure a pledge from Israel to agree to the deal. And then, without explanation,
Arafat walked away and called the intifada. You can read that to say that he started
the war, because that is what he did.

Just wait. Israel will finish the security barrier, come hell or high water they will
pull their people out of Gaza, and then they will tell the Palestinians to go rot.

It's as plain as day to anyone who looks at the record.

If I could just interject a little political advocacy here, can anyone here recall a
war between two democratic states? I can't. Israel is a democratic state. Barring any
other connection we might have to any state or people in the Middle East, if we
believe in democracy we should be supporters of Israel. We should hope for a peaceful
resolution to the crisis that preserves Israel's security and gives a responsible
Palestinian government self-rule in its territory.
