I think you're reading a bit into that. ;^) I read Kevin's message to indicate that he's dead - so can no longer hurt or help things in and of himself. However you're alive - so it's your job to make sure that the truth is known.
More in the sense that, like Mike was saying, the dead are defined by the living. Well... at least that's the way I read it.
