All of the middle east and parts of Europe were under Muslim control and according to Muslim doctrine, any land that was Muslim will always be Muslim and must be freed from infidel hands. This was glossed over in one of Bin Ladens earlier broadcasts but the point is moot. As long as the US is present in a Muslim land, they are considered occupiers (even if invited) and are targets. In the sense that Bin Laden Is a Muslim, he has the right according to that religion to fight against infidels in Muslim lands. Of course, Muslim lands is a broad concept that include where Muslims live so parts of America is Muslim land. So bottom line is, according to the same logic, Bin Laden is working to free Muslim land or the land of his people or land taken from his people (southern Europe), etc. so he's a freedom fighter. You start on that slippery slope by accepting Arafat and you slide down to the point where everyone is a freedom fighter. Hitler only wanted living room for his people, room in countries that were originally Germanic.
And as for his people, they still want (to a large majority) Israel destroyed. This comes from education. Keep educating them that terrorists are heros and they will still want Israel destroyed. Killers who slaughter children are praised in schools. Praising Arafat continues that tradition and teaches that terror works.
