Ray, the TNT2 is an ancient card and really not up to par for playing any new games. It was in my first dedicated gaming system I built back in '98 or so and I'm on my third card since then.
I recommend getting a new card. I know you say he can play other 3D games, but there's a world of difference between "able to play" and running decently. Obviously if he's been playing with the TNT2, then he doesn't need top of the line, but there are decent budget cards out there that will give nice performance.
