It's not unreasonable - I've read some essays and articles about pre-emptive detonation of large amounts of ordnance at specific points along major fault lines and sites of geologic "activity" to try and let off some steam, so to speak, and head off at least a little of the devastation that might occur. Of course, that's a tricky proposition, since high explosives coupled with unstable geologic formations.... well... I'll just climb up a distant mountain with a bag of Pop Secret and some binoculars.
