It's a hard one to discuss... artistically no, Lucasfilms does not have the right to shut down a site, but legally they do. The stories in question used direct existing characters from the Phantom Menace and put them in Master/Servant homoerotic situations. Some of the things the "slash fiction" included were questionable at best... and some other stuff is illegal in certain states (*chuckle*). In the end, though, it comes down to the fact that the stores included copyrighted characters placed in degrading situations. Artistic license is one thing, but when it gets taken too far, then yes, LucasFilms (the owner of the copyright) has every right to demand the content's removal or the site's closure. Imagine if someone took our names from this mailing list and came up with stories using us as the characters... I'd personally be pissed! C.
