I hate SUVs because they're impossible to see around and a general road hazard. However I can't say they're guzzling the earth's fuel since everything is guzzling the Earth's fuel and will continue to do so until we run out or wise up. As a Saudi Prince said, "the stone age didn't end for lack of stone and the oil age won't end for lack of oil." His point being that eventually oil will get really expensive and humans will have to figure something else out. That being the case we're probably better off guzzling the fuel to force society to deal with the problem.
