Around '86 or so, I saw the Moody Blues in a small theater at UCONN.

There was this little guy at the edge of the stage. He was playing the
tamborine - badly - and couldn't quite keep the beat. We joked amongst
ourselves that he was someone's brother-in-law, or the band's accountant, or
someone who had one a radio station contest to play with the band. After a few
songs, though, we didn't really notice him anymore.

Suddenly, those haunting flute parts started up. Guess who?

"Yes, Billy - I know it's selfish, but we really don't have a lot of songs
that feature the cowbell!"
