I've only got personal experience with DC and Sacramento, CA Metro systems.

For the two and 1/2 summers I spent in DC during my college years, I only had
to use a car like twice. My parents lived about 5 blocks from the end of the
Yellow line. With my hobby of genealogy, this was great. Walk to the station,
hop on the train, ride to the other end, cross the street and enter the
National Archives.

Here in Sacramento, the train is ok except for it's somewhat limited reach into
the surrounding communities. They are slowly improving this. Unfortnatly, I
just can't convince myself to use it daily. Trippling my round trip commute
time from ~40 minutes to ~2 hours. That just cuts so deeply into my family
time before the boys go to bed.

....Of course, I don't think anyone could rank Atlanta's MARTA as anyone's

....state

....That said, I ride MARTA quite a bit and it usually gets me where I need
