I agree, although Tokyo's system is great with many of the stations
being Marble.  The last time I was there I saw a Japanese woman
scrubbing the floor with a toothbrush size scrubber!  I don't speak or
much Japanese (and no Kanji!) but people have always stepped up to
help me buy a pass.  Once I get that I don't have too many troubles.

I'll always have a soft spot for Paris' too since it's so easy to use
and so complete in that it can get you anywhere fast.   I once made it
from the 16th to Jim Morrison's grave in 20 minutes.
