Protect all parties...BAH!

While I agree in principle with an NDA, there is a right way and a
wrong way to go about getting one signed.

A former employer of mine tried to get me to sign an NDA/Non-Compete
as I was leaving the offices on my last day of work there.

He told me he was "legally able to withhold [my] paycheck" if I didn't sign it.

The document he wanted me to sign actually said that I would not do
any work related to my current duties (I was the art director for the
company and also ran the web sites for the company -- so no graphic
design and no web design/maintenance) for any clients (mine or his,
past present or future) within 100 miles of his business for 2 years.
Effectively trying to shut out all of Kansas City and the surrounding
area.

Without comment, I pulled out my cell and called my law talkin' guy.

"[Dave] wants me to sign an NDA on my way out the door that
effectively limits my ability to earn a living, do you think I can sue
him and win more than the value of my final paycheck?" -- We had
rehearsed for just such an occassion.

Left the building, paycheck in hand. No NDA.

:-P
