"Closets"? "Bedrooms"? "Shelves"? What are these magical places to put large quantities of possessions you speak of? (My collection is in 20 standard long-boxes all stacked up next to my desk. Behind my daughters play table. Under piles of semi-prepared packages my wife SWEARS she'll be mailing out "soon".) You bastard. ;^) One thing tho' - if you've got a good relationship with any of the local shops ask them where their distributor is (where they get their boxes). Most of those guys are pretty small shops (they often do comics and card supplies for trade shows and stuff as a side business to something bigger like soft-drink distribution or the like) and would be happy to sell you a large-ish quantity directly and you might be able to do a special order. It's a good bet that all of your local shops get their supplies from the same distributor. The place that my shop gets its gear from is a bit out in the boonies (about 1/2 hour drive) but I've stopped in to pick up as little as five boxes (and backer boards and bags). They do general "point of sale" stuff as their main business (cardboard displays, cigarette displays, etc) but they do a brisk business in comic supplies for the 8-12 comic shops in the area as well. (Many shops don't even bother to mark up supplies, some do a small mark up. That long box you're paying $3.50 for was probably $3.25 at the distributor.) Oh - on last thing: it's a pain in the ass for the number you're talking about but you can shorten long boxes to whatever length you like pretty easily. It's even easier if you don't bother doing the lids (which you may not need with your fancy-schmancy "shelves"). ;^) It's not as easy as buying them... but it does work!
