When I looked into them, most examples I found were getting worse mpg than a
diessel powered car with the exception of if you lived in a city and did a
lot of stop n go city driving. Everything I was reading was that the mpg
ratings on the hybrids is incorrect due to out of date EPA tests that figure
out your mpg based on emissions readings on the tailpipe. So if that all was
true then battery would should not play a factor in the mpg ratings in the
non-city driving since isn't that when they normally run off the small gas
motor?
I heard a small bit on the radio this morning about the US government
possibly offering some incentives towards "cleaner running diesel powered
cars" I'd really love to see hybird-diessels produced and offered stateside.
I know all the prototypes of those have offered some stupid high mpg
ratings. Existing just straight diessel cars tend to get low 40s to mid 50s,
depending on car size and both hwy figures. The hybrid prototypes that I
have read about were in the low 70s to mid 80s mpg ranges.
