When I built my most recent (Athalon 2800) I went to TigerDirect.com, looked at what they had, checked reviews real quick, and bought the one I felt had the best blend of "Ben can afford" and "Works well".
I didn't bother to find out what the "best" hardware was, just made sure what I was buying was good enough for my needs and decent for the price.
