>Last, I share your disappointment. Personally I feel betrayed by our
>President and his party:

Very much so. While I didn't vote for him, I thought he was the better of the
popular choices.

>1.) I was hopeful we'd see major spending reform; instead we've seen
>record increases.

This is very true, fiscal responsibility was supposed to have been the halmrk
of the republican party, seems that forgot to enforce that part of the plank.

>2.) I was hopeful we'd see major tax code reform; instead we've seen
>almost laughable giveaways while the AMT stays in place and the tax
>codes gets even larger.

Please, you don't have to tell me. I didn't know what taxes really were until
I started going up in brackets. It's sickening. I mean to think we started a
revolution over a few percent on tea, now half your salary goes in taxes at one
level or another.

>3.) I was hopeful we'd see our budget come under control instead you
>can count daily stories about the horrible state of our finances.

This is sad, we need a balanced budget ammendment badly. I can't continue to
spend money I don't have and neither should the government be able to.

>4.) To your point, I was hopeful we'd see a stronger, smarter, better
>equipped, better paid military; instead recruiting is down, moral is
>down, and the military is being used as a tool for policy and politics
>rather than defense. We're nation-building!

We find ourselves in the Vietnam syndrome again. No way out, no will to push
through to what should be the true goals, for fear of the cost and public
opinion, because then we would have to reexamine our relationship with places
like Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, and we would have to look for our own actions
influencing where we are today.

>Further, as you've said, the country is distracted not only from
>Afghanistan, but from the military as a whole due to Mr. Bush's
>culture wars. He's fired the first shot: what does America value
>more? Liberty or morals as defined and enforced by the federal
>government?

Too me thats easy to answer. This nation is supposed to be about individual
liberty and freedom. Not about one group telling another what to do.

>As it looks we're about to appoint a federal judge (eligible for the
>Supreme Court) who's said that she recognizes a "higher law" than the
>constitution.

Yeah, I haven't been following this, but it doesn't sound good.

>It seems to me that our country is horribly off track: militarily,
>morally, and fiscally.

Yup, Yup.

Time for a viable third party. I wish people didn't think libertarians were
druggies and hippies.
