It seems to me that, while Love is a very strong theme in the book, most of them have been about how Love (including platonic love) is that last thing you need, once you've got cleverness, bravery, and knowledge.
Also, the second book wasn't very good. Kinda made it hard to make a good movie about it. But the books get darker, and love hurts by book 5.
