Hm. I know I've posted my "list" before. But, here goes again: Eliminate caffeine, alchohol, artificial sweeteners Limit: refined white sugar Increase: exercise, talking, connecting with people, time in the sun Regulate: sleeping patterns
I agree with G that if you're not diagnosed and you think you have more than the normal blues, the first thing to do is get yourself to a professional. That doesn't mean get on meds - but it does mean finding out what works for you. I've been able to be off meds for more than 3 years now by doing the above stuff. But, I'm also hyper vigilant, as are my friends and family, about my mental state, and I can tweak my non-meds regimen as needed. Oh, and I don't smoke or do drugs, but I'm thinking that if I did, for depression they'd all be in the eliminate category. On a lighter note - if you just have the blues, throw yourself a nifty little party and tip a few back. Do all the fun shit that makes you smile for no reason. (Ben - I have a HUGE pez collection.) I used to go swing on the swingsets in the park - it's hard not to smile when you're doing a totally kid activity like that. On 7/21/05, S.
