I have the Griffin FM Transmitter - it rocks!  I use it mostly for audio 
books, which sound fine.  The music quality isn't perfect, but it's 
decent enough (radio quality).  The signal is clear enough, though on my 
commute home I hit some rough patches, just like with any radio signal

Also, get a case for it, no matter what, if you care about scratches.  I 
have a case, and mine still gets scratches.  I don't really care that 
much (after the first few scratches, I started to suck it up...), but 
it's been good to have a case.  I can't imagine how beat up it would be 
if I didn't have it!
