I have been considering looking for a player that will do OGG so I
wouldn't have to convert... But none of them seem anywhere near as sexy
as the iPods.

With the nano screen... Couldn't you just put that protective film over
top of it? I did that for the screen on my Palm and the LCD on my
digital camera and it worked like a charm --or do they just not stick
well to the nano's screen surface?

Ars-technica.com did a great torture test of the nano and found it very
durable (although they did end up destroying it in the process). The
current lawsuit is that the screen "scratches too easily" and, after
reading
about it, seems a bit frivolous to me.

But if all you're music is MP3 anyway you could save a LOT of money by
going
with a non-iPod. Personally I just don't like iTunes and since the iPod
won't play my (WMA) music it's not even a consideration.

Mp3.com has good reviews of plenty of players. The mini ranks right up
there, of course, but is actually beaten in several areas (the Rio
Carbon
Pearl for example gets nearly twice the battery life, while the Zen
micro
has an FM tuner).

If you can stand iTunes I don't think you'll be at all unhappy with any
of
the iPods... but there are other, cheaper options which give you more
freedom to how you manage and store your music.

(That being said if the Nano supported WMA and WMP I'd have bought one
by
now.)
