The small town thing doesn't bother me much. Last year when we moved form Phx to Jax that's all I heard (Jax is "podunk"). I'm old and married and got 2 kids. Lack of nightlife isn't going to alter my lifestyle any :)
Grew up in NJ, so i'm used to cold...but not necessarily "sidewalks as tunnels" kinda snow. Michigan probably never would have been high on my list of places to move...but like the old saying goes, "If you're not happy and your wife is...you're still happier than if you're happy and your wife is not" :) I just hope she really gets the whole "sidewalks as tunnels" thing. Good news is that preliminary searches on realtor.com show that houses seem to be comparable to what they are here in Jax (cheap). Finding work's kind of a concern (just a little). The thing about not wanting to live/work/shop/stare-directly-at Detroit is a little bit of a concern....
