I Disagree. A 12 year old in American Culture has been conditioned to think this because our society and culture considers them children who should be in school.
In a culture where people are permitted to marry at 12 would be conditioned from birth to recognize that as reasonable. Reason is something that is based directly on your culture. Reason changes over time. Go back 400 years, when life spans in the most developed countries were still in the 40s at best. So if a girl waited until 18, she could be spending half her life recognized as just a girl, and not a woman. Only a few hundred years before the life spans were in the 20s. If a girl waited until she was 18 to get married and have children, then her oldest would be 6 when she died. Reason is greatly influenced by culture, when cultures collide and what is reasonable in one is not reasonable in the other then we have problems. > -----Original Message----- > From: Gruss Gott [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > > For example, a girl who was married at 12 is perfectly capable of > realizing that that was probably not the best idea even though her > culture permitted it.
