How about if they put a camera in your bedroom? You're not doing
anything wrong so why should it matter? But just to make sure, maybe
they should question you once a week. And your wife. And kids.

And if they find something that they aren't sure about, maybe they
should hold you for a few days. It shouldn't be a bother because
you're not doing anything wrong.

Do you see the problem now?

The government isn't some nebulous body, it's just people. Some are
good, and some aren't. Some won't abuse their power and some will
rape your wife if they can get away with it.

To ensure that your privacy and rights are protected there's only one
way: you assume that any power given will be abused (as we are
constantly reminded of). And you also assume that a power, once
given, won't be revocable.

So the question is, who do you trust more? You or "the government"?
If the answer is you, then you better damn well make sure that you
hold the power because if you give it away you might not be able to
get it back.
