He didn't say it made you a dictator, he said it defines you. If you are an elected official at the head of a democracy, and you are willing to look past Castro's human rights violations, and call him a "friend"....because you like making money in Cuba....perhaps that does say something about your character.
Keep in mind the US has been doing this for years with China. We appease our guilty conscience by every once in awhile calling them out on their human rights abuses...then we go right on trading with them.
