I'm not saying what they could do if Cubans were 'free' as you put it.

I meant if the country was not under trade embargos etc. What could
their economy grow to and what could they accomplish? A lot of the
poverty in Cuba and the hardships are a direct result of US policies
against the country.

Under the circumstances the country has done remarkably well under
their brand of socialism, as you call it.

Only if those trade embargos are removed and the country is allowed to
freely operate in the global marketplace can you or anyone else say
whether their form of government and Society works or not.Castro isn't
going to live forever, and maybe in a free market even he would loosen
some of his grip without the threat of US takeover and destruction of
what he has built looming around ever corner!

You've never been to Cuba, know nothing about Cubans except what you
see in your US news reports and thus what you are spewing equates to
nothing more than parroting US Propaganda which has existed against
the country for decades.

Cuba is a culturally rich and beautiful country, its architecture is
something to be treasured and drank in like a fine wine.

You speak like an old colonial plantation master who sees those in
different cultures and societies as beneath himself and therefore
worthy of nothing more than subjugation.

You rant that unfettered Capitalism without conscience, which appeals
to and fosters one of the Seven Deadly Sins: Greed in mankind is the
only way a country can obtain Economic Success. That's really sad.

How have the US Trade Sanctions helped the Cuban people? The US
doesn't really give a flying f*** about the Cuban people, they fear
that Socialism will flourish in their backyard and give an example of
a different way of life to their unfettered capitalistic rot.

Is Capitalism working for the US? What's the state of your Society
currently with the level of Corruption evidenced in the highest levels
of your Government? Where Senators and congressmen are bought and sold
to the highest bidder, where Energy policies and treaties are broken
with the signature on a check. Greed indeed.

How can you ever think a society that is governed by Greed and which
holds Greed as an ideal for the success of its economy ever function
for the 'Good' of mankind?

I also started off discussing Chavez, not Castro. You jumped in saying
that Chavez was a horrible person because he claims to Respect Castro.

Yes Castro IS a Dictator.
And that is not the case with Chavez.
He was elected through fair democratic elections which were vetted by
none other than your great Jimmy Carter, a 'True American' by majority
American consensus.

Chavez may have ulterior motives, he may metamorphosise into something
else in the future. But right now all we have is propaganda. No facts
or evidence of anything he is doing wrong.

All the evidence we have and what the man's own words say is that he
wants nothing to do with the United States, wants to be truly
independent and autonomous and not at the beck and call of whomever
sits in the US Whitehouse.

Oh...and of course wanting the same for his neighbours and his people.
