Actually, mine came with a really nifty little holder tray thing. It's
basically a metal rectangle with S-curves of metal that go between each row
of cups. I've seen them sold without that, and yah, I would think you'd need
to use a cookie sheet, which would annoy  me somehow. I don't like silicone
for baking bread. You don't get the same kind of crust going on. But, for
muffins, it's great. I hated trying to get the muffins to release without
messing up the tops.
