I am quite aware what free speech affords. I am also aware that 'Free Speech' without the understanding of responsibility is the staple of a backwards,philistine,intolerant society.
In fact,one of the arguments of the white racists of the 60s was that the Free Market should take care of itself, and the government should stay out of the affairs of Proper White businesses,ergo allow segregation to continue. So I know the argument that you raise all too well. We've seen it several times through history as a defence of intolerance and bigotry. You don't owe me anything for your own education on this matter though. The responsibility that Free Speech carries should be understood by Newspapers especially. You have not commented on the fact that the articles which went along with the pictures were intentionally misrepresentative of Islam and insulting to Muhammed. But I suppose this is Free Speech as well. Common sense and good social responsibility should not need to be legislated. If a culture hasn't matured enough to see that no amount of legislation will help. The law clearly agrees with me that there is responsibility that goes along with the Freedom of Speech, hence your country has laws forbidding the discussion of things which can be attached to Terrorist Acts, or saying things in public that might incite violence. All these are limits to Freedom of Speech. Germany has laws preventing promoting Nazism. All limits to Free Speech. But in your version of Hell the individual bears no social responsibility beyond making lots and lots of money. Why don't you support the Arab world now withholding oil,boycotting Danish products and other Trade over this? Isn't that Free Market-Free Speech as well?
