the crucifix is indeed a sacred symbol to Christians. In order to be a true 
crucifix though, as you say, it has to have an image of Christ on the cross 
and be blessed by a clergy.

That being said, a simple cross (without the image of Christ) is generally 
considered a symbol of Christianity. So any depiction that perverts the 
symbol of a cross might be considered offensive by Christians. (A common 
symbol used by self-proclaimed "devil worshippers" is that of an upside-down 
cross, which is meant to symbolize a renunciation of Christianity).
