the crucifix is indeed a sacred symbol to Christians. In order to be a true crucifix though, as you say, it has to have an image of Christ on the cross and be blessed by a clergy.
That being said, a simple cross (without the image of Christ) is generally considered a symbol of Christianity. So any depiction that perverts the symbol of a cross might be considered offensive by Christians. (A common symbol used by self-proclaimed "devil worshippers" is that of an upside-down cross, which is meant to symbolize a renunciation of Christianity). > > I thought maybe he was implying that a depiction of a crucifixion > is/should be automatically equated with the death of Christ, which I > suppose could be considered offensive to Christians, but would be > presumptuous, given that lots and lots of people were executed by the > Romans in this manner...and as the comments in the blog indicate there > aren't any of the standard "this is Christ" markers... crown of > thorns, INRI sign, etc. > > "Crucifixion's a doddle..." > -- > will > > > "If my life weren't funny, it would just be true; > and that would just be unacceptable." > - Carrie Fisher > > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:5:196313 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/5 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:5 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.5 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
