In a previous thread I gave plenty of examples of how Chavez has used
the military and intelligence services to intimidate and bully
opposition and, of course, Castro is his model.

What you don't seem to be able to come to grips with is that there's a
rich history of dictators starting exactly as Chavez has - via
controversial elections. Then they attempt to hold on to power via
constitution changes and thuggery, and then outright destruction of
any type of democratic process.

And then there's the take over of the oil company and shakey economic
policies. On both accounts you can make a small case for good and big
case for bad.

The reason it happens this way is because these types of people aren't
evil - they become evil. They rise to power in an attempt to do good
by saying, "if I just had more power, then I could do more good."

I think it was Malcolm X that said something like, "the ends justify
the means, but if the means are nefarious then so shall be the ends."

I've read enough history and enough of Chavez to be 90% sure he's one
of these people. I could be wrong, but I'm probably not. Time will
tell.
