Unfortunately the US has nowhere near the number of soldier that would
be required to hold or occupy Iran. Most optimistic estimates of fuly
suppressing an insurgency suggest that at the very minimum you need 20
combat soldiers per 1000 civilians. Iran has, according to the CIA
factbook, over 70 million citizens. That means you'd need about 1.4
million soldiers patrolling Iran.

For all the blood thirsty types I have one question, where are all
those trained infantry soldiers going to be coming from?
