The laws regarding manslaughter and murder deal with things like intent. Take the Cheney shooting a few weeks ago, the DA and police didn't determine it wasn't worth his time, they determined no crime was submitted.
My Definition of manslaughter was based on the Kentucky Law, which can summarized like this: Murder - intent to kill 1st degree Manslaughter - intent to injure but killed 2nd degree manslaughter - wantonly killed This is where I think the misunderstanding occurs, religion is not morals, and morals are not religion. Some religions attempt to instill or teach morals. But they don't create them. Blue laws are a result of religion influencing what people think is moral. Morals are there regardless of religion, good people don't need a bible to be good people, and the bible doesn't automatically make people good. Morality is above religion, some use religion to teach morality, but you don't use morality to teach religion. We allot one's teachings to oppress the other all the time. Look at people that would like to practice animal sacrifice, there are animal cruelty laws that interfere with that, those are morally based, they laws don't hurt humans, but we have them. > I think the laws that have morality in them are laws that have been > influenced by religion. The problem with this is that our forefathers > decided that we would have freedom of religion as well as a seperate > government from religion. So now we have a bunch of different religions > with different teachings and different moralities. Do we allow one's > teachings and moralty's to oppress the other? > > This is why we need lawmakers that don't cater to any religious group. > Once we allow morality to dictate our laws we allow one religion to > dictate the direction that everyone has to follow, whether it's right or > wrong. Hence the issue of gay marriage. The ban is compltely based on a > religious issue, we have allowed ourselves to be dictated by a religion > that some of us don't follow and have allowed it to oppress a group of > people that if given the right to marry would not affect any of us. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:5:199784 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/5 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:5 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.5 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
