First clean up as many old files as possible. For that, run "cleanmgr" and 
select everything but the "compress" option. If the system has a large harddisk 
it is safe to reduce the percentage of the disk used for System Restore, 
usually 1 GB is more then enough. If the system has more then 256 MB RAM, 
switch off the swap file. Defragment a few times, enable the swapfile but set 
it to a fixed size (min == max).
