My sister bought a video about Dinosaur Extinction this weekend at Stop and Shop grocery store for my 6-year-old nephew (who is fascinated by dinosaurs, and history in general).
The first 5 minutes were gloom and doom from scientists espousing the asteroid theory of extinction. (saying threateningly over and over again that we might die at any moment by the next asteroid.) My nephew was visibly shaken by this scare, and wanted to turn the video off. Fortunately, the scene then shifted, nice people came on the screen, blue skies and light music started, and the science shifted to what "really" happened. The earth is only 5000-7000 years old. Dinosaurs were killed in the great flood. Which produced all mountains, ocean features, and the Grand Canyon. And there is so much proof. There is no way that man could be born from monkeys, and that most scientists can't agree on what happened, but everyone now agrees that this is the only theory that takes all of it into account. They then offered proofs, such as "evolutionists" used to think their science told them man started more than 250,000 years ago, but recalibration by those same scientists shows that man is 20 times younger than that. Which, of course, makes man only 6000 years old or so. (do the math). Fortunately, I was there while they watched, and was able to, point by point, walk my nephew through the science as I knew it, and pointed to the discovery channel website and his extensive book collection for backup. (I had to first check with my sister to make sure this message was not HER intention). As I pointed out the facts as told on the video, and the facts as I knew them, then asked which he thought more likely, in most cases he agreed the "accepted" science seemed most likely. Not all, though. He is completely confused by the video, asking "why would they tell lies"? Try explaining biblical literalism, ID and the scientific theory to a six year old. And then try that as his godfather. Yikes. So, I am pissed at the video company (who did everything they could to make the dvd case look like it came from the discovery channel, which is another kind of lie), and at the supermarket for not better labeling the content as biblical and ID-based. And because now I am screwed and have to buy him the promised Discovery Channel videos and books on dinosaurs. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:5:201668 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/5 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:5 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.5 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
