You will notice a difference if and only if you get a good lens to go with
it.

I have a couple of DSLRs a Nikon D2x and a Nikon D100

I also have a 70-200 f2.8 lens with vibration reduction.

That lens was the best camera purchase I ever made.

In general 30 feet isn't a large distance. But if you want to capture it
well, you'll need a fast lens with a reasonable focal length.

At weddings I often am not allowed to use a flash, there have also been
sporting events and other things that I have shot where a flash is frowned
upon.
