"paranoid" implies that the fear is irrational..........depending on location and circumstances, i'd say fear of getting caught sparkin' is not at all irrational, specially with the ridiculous kinds of overreactions you get these days to the stuff.
Also, the same kid who at 22 might not have cared about possible repercussions, may be singing a different tune when he's 35, married, and supporting a family.....all because of the legal troubles that are possible.
