OK, the point of the declassification was to show what evidence the
administration had when it made the statement. While some documents were
forged, other items in the case were real. They concluded that while no
transaction took place, Iraqi officials did attempt to purchase uranium but
were unsuccessful.

They wanted to public to recognize that when they made the statement they
felt it was true.
