But sadly, it seems that Chavez will be the one doing the stealing in
Venezuela. Not from the multi-nationals, from the Venezuelan people. He'll
do it in their name, to be sure, but somehow loads of money will end up in
numbered accounts in Switzerland that he controls. Just wait and see.

In terms of what to do about the contracts, if there really was corruption
and it can be proved, there should be prosecutions, the companies should be
fined, and perhaps they should be made to sell off their interests to the
government, or to some third party that the government designates. But such
action could too easliy become a disguise for theft. There might have been
corruption in picking vendors, but the honest truth is that there are only a
handful of enterprises on the planet that have the technical knowledge and
the resources to extract Venezuela's oil and gas.
