$172 canoe ride so the wife and i drive an hour out of town to meet up with some friends to go on a canoe ride. Mad River is the only spring fed stream in ohio, so that make it crystal clear, clean & very swimable.
we get to the livery around noon. we get 3 canoes at 22 apiece & 2 kayaks at around 15. so we proceed to load up the van & head out to the drop off. as we are driving through the country side i notice 3 sheriff's going under a bridge. i ask the driver whats up with that. he isn't sure so we dismiss it. so we load the coolers into the canoes & begin our very pleasant float. after about 3 hours we see a couple minks! very cool, never seen them live in the wild, like black ferrets, but bigger.. playing along the bank. buddy sees a turtle & there so many trout, i kinda wish i fished. any way, we noticed a few fisher men along the way. see several other groups, every one generally having fun, taking there time, swimming & drinking little. so we come to a bridge where we see 5 ODNR officers. they are handing out tickets to the group in front of us. some girl is crying, as an officer is going through her boy friends cigarette pack.. they tell us to pull over. behind me i hear my buddy say oh, crap, as he dunks his canoe. they ask if we have our life vests. sure do. then they ask if we have had any alcoholic beverages. a few say no. I said i had 2! that's when the tickets come out. 150.00 for open container in public. a buddy gets lippy, they ask if he wants a dui & a talk with the sherrif. my other buddy the Lawyer, is getting racked for dumping his canoe, they think he was disposing of evidence.
