You don't find that just slightly circular reasoning?

While, yes, there is no scientific consensus on any practical uses for this
there is definite scientific consensus on the value of further study.  If
the investigation turns out to be a dead-end, so be it (it wouldn't be the
first, or the last, time in science) but the process of that investigation
will open up vast new areas of inquiry.

Areas if inquiry that the US will be sorely challenged to meet starting, as
it is, from a crippled position.
