I hope you're right but I fail to see anything that convinces me you
are.  Iraq is in civil war - I've heard figures of 1000 dead since
July and it's getting worse.  Even the Pentagon no longer makes any
pretense about its ability to control it.

At the Pentagon's own briefing, their prediction is full scale civil
war unless something changes and Bush shows no signs of changing
anything.

A simple extrapolation says now is the time to leave or to ramp up in
a huge way.

If a change is not the US Marines will play wack-a-mole for the next 6
months until the moles grow into wolverines and then the wolverines
grow into dragons.  At that point, things come unglued, Bush pulls the
troops, and all is lost in Iraq.

I've heard or seen nothing to indicate a counter trend.  And, sadly,
it's what everybody said, save a few deluded Neo-Cons, before a single
boot hit the ground: you can win the war, but you can't win the peace.
