You definately have not read your history of the time period. During the 
Revolutionary War, the continentals (the pro independence groups) engaged in 
ethnic cleansing of many indian tribes all along what is now the states that 
border Canada. Or similar incidents during the War of 1812.  You may also want 
to read about the Trail of Tears during Jackson's presidency. 

As for voting power to change the political landscape, look what happened to 
the Loyalists in Georgia, Virginia and Pennsylvania (to name 3 of the original 
colonies) - those in favour of remaining with the crown, unless they fled, were 
tortured and killed. Their property was confiscated and many were confined to 
what we now would call concentration camps.

The thing with the small pox blankets was started by the Quebecois during their 
war with the Iroquois.
