I think a religious studies class should be required...where you learn the
different theologies of the various world religions...compare and contrast
their creation stories, etc etc. That is valuable information, especially in
today's society.

As for that last sentence, you are half right. You can't prove or disprove
creationism, so yeah, you can't tell them they must learn it one way or the
other. All you CAN require they learn, is that which you CAN prove....which
is, in a word, evolution.

If you want to separate it out into science and religion that's fine.

It's not a matter of want....it's a matter of MUST. You simply cannot teach
religion as a science.

As for the "faith in scientists" argument, why can't you do the calculations
yourself? Evolution is not a difficult concept, nor is it hard to observe
and judge the evidence in it's favor. We did electrophlorisis (hope i
spelled that right, been a long time) experiments in HIGH SCHOOL that
yielded awesome, real world results that were in support evolution.

This stuff isn't faith...it's observable, repeatable, and predictable....the
definition of "science".
