Science searches for explanations - cause and effect. The effect is the
existence of life on Earth - how did it come to be in its form today.
Evolution is one possible cause. Another is ID. Both are possible causes of
the effect. Ergo, you have science.

The problem is that most of the ID concepts that I have seen are NOT based on
scientific principals. They are basically of the order. "I reject evolution,
so let's come up with another idea. Now I can't 'Prove' this idea, but
evolution isn't 'Proved' either so my idea is just as good." I feel this is
based on a misunderstanding of what the word "Theory" means to a scientist as
apposed to a layperson.

And an understanding of what 'evolution' is. There's what is known. Life
changes, we have observed life change. We have experiments showing life
changing; we have evidence of life changing; we can change life through animal
and plant husbandry. Evolution happens. This is scientifically known and is
called evolution. Why life changes and how it changes is much less known and
is still being worked on.

Now if ID proponents are willing to accept the scientific process to develop
hypothesizes based on their ideas, develop experiments to test these
hypothesizes, publish the results of these tests in respectable, peer reviewed
scientific journals for discussion and debate of the scientific community.
Rinse and repeat until a general consensus is reached. I would have little
problem with it.

The problem I see is that many supporters of ID do not want to wait on this
tried and true method of changing the knowledge of science. They want to
short-circuit the process and force science classes to teach their ideas
without the vetting of the scientific community. Usually based on some idea of
conspiracy or persecution by the scientific community, so they need to force it.

Now I have heard some concepts of "ID" that are interesting and they are
following the scientific model, and I await to see how they fall out and
possible get incoperated into our understanding of the development of life on
this planet. Will they increase our understanding of evolution, replace it, or
some other possible result. It is interesting. But what I have read is way
over my head, and I believe much to advanced to be trying to put into high
school coriculiums at this time.
