I griped about the pain and she diagnosed based upon the symptoms.  There
was no test involved.  But I had the pain aling my sciatic nerve.  When I
showed her where, she immediately diagnosed.

Then she tried the anti inflamatory, Naproxen I think.  That cleared it
almost completely up.
