The addition of liberal is meant to appeal to a particular
demographic.  I don't think liberal is a bad word to everyone, just
those that think of themselves as "conservatives"

I'm a proud social liberal - I want the gov't in a little of our lives
as possible.  But I'm also a proud fiscal conservative - I want a
small federal gov't, and low taxes.

Put another way, I'm part of the libertarian wing of the Republican
party; the old wing.  The new wing is the George Bush
catholic-inspired social activist party.  This is the side that raises
gov't spending to contribute to AIDS in Africa while also preventing
Gays from marrying.
