Well geez... children have been nude since birth. So at 10, they've
been exposed to nudity all their friggin lives.

> How about sexual intercourse?

The mechanics, probably. Graphic images, no.

> How about drug use?

Illicit or medical?

> How about animal slaughter?

Wow... reaching here... I had many friends as a kid that were raised
on farms. They witnessed animal slaughter at a very young age. Most of
them under ten i'd say.

I killed my first squirrel at 8 with a 22. I killed my first deer at
10. "Slaughtered" them both and ate them.

So with that out of the way let's see if I get your position... as far
as art goes...

Based on your no nudity clause:

It would be okay for children to be exposed to, say... The Martyrdom
of Saint Sebastian? : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Sebastian

Or perhaps Michelangelo's Pieta :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michelangelo's_Pieta

And, dare I say it, Serrano's "Piss Christ"? :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piss_Christ

Right?

Note the lack of nudity in each.

Or would the challenge to religion in Piss Christ be too much?

What if they were in the same exhibit of religion-inspired artwork?

> The parents that complained were upset that their children were
> exposed to nudity.

Did they bother to find out what the exhibit was about? Did they
bother to do any research? Or, did they simply react? and over-react?

See, the problem here is that no matter what, the child cannot un-see
something and these parents are missing an excellent opportunity to
talk with their children.

So another question for you: Would _you_ research the exhibit
beforehand, and after doing so, would you then sign the permission
slip?

Would you further go on the field trip to cover your child's eyes so
that they wouldn't be exposed to a blasphemous image like Piss Christ?

Or would you shield them from the violence inherent in "Martyrdom" or
the pain Mary is so obviously feeling in "Pieta"?

At which point would you say, okay, this is good and appropriate, and
then everything else is bad, and evil and rotten.

and, at what point do you then encourage your children to no longer
challenge themselves with ideas other than those fed to them?

A teacher fired for exposing children to art at an exhibit that
parents signed a permission slip for the children to attend,
absolutely unconscionable!

Well I'm glad to be counted in the Not Most People category then,
because I definitely disagree.
